This page is
devoted to increasing the power of my TZR250R V-twin 3XV to
somewhere around (or maybe slightly higher) than what the factory
would have given us if the bike was imported into this country.
As many of you
will know, this is not straight forward. Having done many runs with
it on my Dyno I have amassed much knowledge about the bike. Along
the way I have found a lot of the information that I have read on
the web over the years (even from Japan) seems not to be
particularly accurate, and WITHOUT a good honest dyno graph.
The bike is a
standard but tired 92’R (not SP etc). I am reluctant to rebuild the
engine until it either gives up or I think I’ve got the power to the
levels that I would like so a healthier engine will see another
4-6hp across all of these graphs. It is the improvements/losses over
the standard hp curve that is of interest to us.
I also have
managed to gain full control over the ignition curve. This has not
been easy or straight forward, but it means that the ignition has
ceased to become the limiting factor, and will give a good
indication of the best that the bike will perform in each given set
up. I also still have the variable air jet system still working, as
I do not want to see ANY losses by the time I have finished
this.
I must say at
this point that I do have a “Race/Sugo” box but rejected it as it is
only suitable for a bike which is tuned to race kit spec. The
ignition curve is wrong, you have to modify the wiring, only one of
the variable air jets fire and that’s not at the right time, the
list goes on and on and on.
The system
that I am using is a prototype set-up developed by Smartcom and
myself, which will be available when I am confident that I can
guarantee it will produce the power and reliability on your road
bike without spending hrs on the dyno.
